The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has always been an active advocate of gender equality in the work place. To uphold it more, on June 20, 2018, at the 4th floor of Sun Plaza Building, Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City, the agency awarded P2,000,000.00 in cheque to Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) to assist its significant activities in Gender And Development (GAD).

PCSO thru its GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) supported PCW in organizing the Senior Officials Conference on Gender Mainstreaming in the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Sectoral Bodies and Localization of the Magna Carta of Women (MCW), in pursuit of PCSO’s goal to accomplish one of its plans indicated under its 2018 Annual Gender and Development Plan and Budget (GPB).

Around 100 delegates from the ASEAN Members States participated in the ASEAN Confab where in the fundamental concepts of GAD and women and gender issues are the main conference topics. All in all, the convention was a success. According to Ms. Honey M. Castro, Chief, Corporate Affairs and Information Resource Management Division, PCW “We are proud to share the success of the conference to PCSO through its GFPS who is consistently supporting the programs and objectives of PCW,”

Through PCW, who is the Philippine focal point of ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW), the commission organized and managed the three-day “Senior Officials Conference on Gender Mainstreaming in the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Sectoral Bodies” held at Dusit Hotel, Makati City from June 27 to 29, 2018.

It is one of ASEAN’s commitments in the region “To consistently pursue gender equality and respect for women’s rights,” which is promoted by the association’s sectoral body ACW. This guiding principle is articulated in the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and reiterated in the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Blueprint which contains the priorities and strategies to achieve the socio-cultural objectives of ASEAN. The ASCC Blueprint envisions the building of “an inclusive community that promotes high quality of life, equitable access to opportunities for all and promotes and protects the human rights of women, children, the elderly/older persons, persons with disabilities, migrant workers and vulnerable and marginalized groups.”
